Ignacio Benites Moreno
Biologist
He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1998) and a Master's degree in Ecology and Evolution of Biodiversity from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2002).
He holds a PhD in Ecology and Evolution of Biodiversity from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2008) with supervision at the University of Otago (New Zealand). He is currently a professor at the Interdisciplinary Department of the Litoral Norte Campus of UFRGS and at CECLIMAR. He supervises undergraduate and graduate students (Master's and PhD) as a member of the Permanent Core of the Postgraduate Program in Animal Biology (PPGBAN/UFRGS). He has experience in zoology and fishing activities, working primarily on the following topics: evolution, conservation, management, artisanal fishing, fisheries monitoring, distribution, biology and biogeography, and interactions between humans and non-human species. He is currently the coordinator of the Botos da Barra Project, which aims to safeguard the cooperative fishing between fishermen and dolphins in the Barra do Rio Tramandaí.
