André Barreto

Biologist.

Marine biologist (UFRJ), with a Master's and PhD in Biological Oceanography (FURG). He developed his PhD by differentiating T. truncatus and T. gephyreus through cranial morphology.

Since 2000, he has been a professor at the University of Vale do Itajaí, teaching undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences and Oceanography, as well as in the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Science and Technology. He has participated in working groups of IBAMA and ICMBio focused on the conservation of marine mammals and is a collaborator of the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Small Cetaceans (PAN) of ICMBio. Since 2018, he has represented the Brazilian delegation in the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission. Since 2014, he has been the general coordinator of the Beach Monitoring Project in the Santos Basin, conducted by UNIVALI. He has developed research related to the ecology, distribution, and behavior of cetaceans.
