Lisa
Lisa is a female Lahille’s bottlenose dolphin regularly seen in the Patos Lagoon estuary in southern Brazil. In her first recorded sighting in 1998, she was already caring for a calf, which allows us to estimate that she is at least 32 years old, given that the minimum reproductive age for females is 8 years.
Lisa is a true matriarch and a central figure in the Patos Lagoon dolphin community; we have already identified three generations descended from her—meaning she already has great-grandchildren within the population! Lisa is known for her dedicated care of her calves, and even after they reach adulthood, they continue to be seen by her side. Her last calf was born in 2015, and to this day, mother and child remain inseparable.
By symbolically adopting Lisa, you will be contributing to the conservation of Lahille’s bottlenose dolphins and helping protect the rich history of this matriarch and her family.
