Action 3 – Marine Environmental Education and Training Course
The Gephyreus Project is organizing the “Marine Environmental Education and Training” course in Rio Grande (RS), addressing fishing, the coastal zone, and climate change to train local agents committed to environmental preservation.
The Gephyreus Project, in partnership with the NGO Kaosa, is organizing the “Marine Environmental Education and Training” course, an opportunity aimed at teachers in the region. With support from the Rio Grande Municipal Secretariat of the Environment (SMMA) and sponsorship from Guanabara Supermarket, Sagres, and Portos RS, the course offers an immersive exploration of the environmental and socioeconomic aspects of the Patos Lagoon Estuary, addressing critical issues for the region’s sustainability.
The course is structured around three main themes: the coastal zone, fishing, and climate change, with a practical and interdisciplinary approach. During the course, participants will learn about how the estuary functions, its ecological role, and the challenges of conservation, including environmental pollution and the vulnerabilities faced by local marine fauna. In addition, the course will examine the impact of climate change on daily life and potential strategies for adaptation.
We hope to contribute to the development of local agents committed to environmental preservation, providing an enriching experience applicable to the educational and community context of the municipality of Rio Grande (RS
